Hamilton Trent

I’ve seen it written that Hamilton watches were the Patek Philippe of the American watch industry and I suspect that the experts are correct.

This is a Hamilton Trent that first went into production in 1955 but there is something  inscribed on the back of the watch that could cause confusion to some people, but more on this later.

The watch case is 24 x 37mm 10k gold filled, the movement is the superb 22 jeweled Hamilton Grade 770 that many consider to be (technically) Hamilton’s finest mechanical movement.

The dial is supposed to be Stirling silver on this watch, I can’t verify that from the information to hand though.

The inscription states a date of January 29th 1936 though that is many years before this watch was made, I would guess that the watch was given for 20 or 25 years of service and that the date on the watch refers to the commencement of Mr. Martin’s employment. This would date the watch to 1956 or 1961 which would be about right for this model of watch.

A fine example of a later Hamilton mechanical watch, not from what some consider to be the golden years but a true classic from America’s finest watchmaker.
